Support NJ CEED

The state funds a cancer screening program called the New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection Program or NJ CEED. This program provides low-income uninsured men and women with breast, cervical, prostate and colorectal cancer screening. It can literally mean the difference between life and death.

NJ CEED serves an average of 20,000 women aged 18-64 annually. In the last fiscal year, CEED screening sites conducted almost 12,000 mammograms, approximately 12,500 pap tests for cervical cancer screenings, over 4,000 colorectal cancer screenings, and more than 1,200 prostate exams for men.

But there are problems in the system. The current state funding of $5.4 million only allows NJ CEED to screen less than 20% of those who are eligible for the program.

The Latest Update

The Governor's Budget proposes stable funding for this program. While this is an extraordinarily difficult budget year, it is also a time when thousands of people are losing their jobs and their health insurance, so they are looking to the CEED program to provide life-saving screening: this program should not be cut.
