Major Campaigns

  • One Degree Campaign
    Year Two

    Enact funding increases for cancer research, prevention and early detection NIH, NCI, CDC.

    Support both appropriations and mandatory funding (21st Century Cures) options. Protect mandatory spending authority of the Prevention and Public Health Fund.

  • Global Tobacco Control

    Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

    Support House and Senate passage of TPP to curb the tobacco industry's ability to overturn government tobacco control policies in the U.S. and around the world.

  • Patient and Survivor
    Quality of Life

    Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA).

    Support House and Senate passage of PCHETA, legislation to facilitate access to palliative care and coordinated care management for cancer patients and survivors.

  • 80 Percent by 2018

    Removing Barriers to Colorectal Cancer Screening Act (RBCCSA).

    Support House and Senate passage of RBCCSA to remove Medicare patient cost-sharing requirements for colonoscopy with polyp removal. Support regulatory changes to provide coverage for the colorectal cancer screening continuum, including follow-up colonoscopy.

Other Legislative and Regulatory Priorities

  • Cancer prevention and early detection

    Protect and increase appropriated funds for CDC breast and cervical cancer and colorectal cancer screening programs.

  • Access to care

    Support and enhance the coverage, affordability, prevention, and quality of care provisions of the Affordable Care Act that help cancer patients. Issues include but are not limited to drug coverage, network adequacy, and Medicaid expansion.

  • Tobacco regulation

    Support assertion of FDA authority over and regulation of all tobacco products. Oppose explicit congressional efforts to exclude e-cigarettes and cigars from FDA regulatory authority.

  • Access to pain medicine

    Support continued access to opioid-based pain medications for cancer patients and survivors.

  • Global cancer prevention

    Integrate tobacco and second hand smoke control into USAID global health programs. Support increased funding for HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screen and treat programs.

  • Skin cancer

    Support efforts to reduce skin cancer through restrictions in the use of indoor tanning beds.

  • Childhood Cancer

    Support development of new and effective cancer therapies for children and adolescents through increased investment in research and incentives for drug development.

  • Laboratory developed tests

    Support assertion of FDA authority over laboratory developed tests.

  • Health equity

    Support initiatives in research, prevention, and provision of patient services to reduce disparities in cancer incidence and mortality.

  • Healthy Eating and Active Living

    Support implementation of quality nutrition standards for food served in schools and menu labeling standards to combat obesity.

  • Oral chemo parity

    Support coverage for oral chemotherapy drugs with the same out of pocket cost sharing as chemotherapy drugs administered intravenously by a physician.
