On September 3, CVS Health announced that all tobacco products had been removed from it's more than 7,100 stores.
This announcement is further evidence of the impact ACS CAN and its volunteers are having in the fight against tobacco and cancer.
In response to the news, American Cancer Society and ACS CAN CEO Dr. John Seffrin congratulated CVS Health, saying, "Today we celebrate CVS Health for being the trailblazer that we hope will embolden other retailers to join us in making this cancerÈs last century."
Its move was particularly fitting as the nation marked the 50th anniversary of the landmark 1964 U.S. Surgeon GeneralÈs Report on Smoking and Health, which launched one of the most successful, life-saving public health movements in United States history, reducing the smoking rate by more than half and saving more than 8 million lives.
At its recent annual Leadership Summit & Lobby Day, ACS CAN presented an award to CVS Health's Chielf Health Strategy Officer, Thoma Moriarty.
